Exotic Wings & Exotic Wings Extreme

Bringing you the best opportunities in aviation photography…

Travel to the action, immerse yourself photography, shoot rarities, visit ‘bucket list’ destinations, experience the thrill of the chase, learn from specialists all over the world, enjoy a fantastic social scene… There really is nothing like it.

COAP has decades of professional experience in delivering aviation photography, whether it’s a professional and enthusiast engagement across military air arms and commercial operators, visiting airshows or conducting air-to-air photography sorties.

These operations are strictly for photographers and are dedicated to spending quality time in the best vantage points, often executed with local knowledge and experience in place, and sometimes working towards a specific end result for our hosts.

Such visits may include a Workshop tutorial or have a Masterclass built into them, whereby aircrew or specialist aviation photographers will present to the group in a relaxed, interactive format.

The EW Extreme operations include travel off the beaten track, and are more suited to the dedicated photographer that loves the thrill of the chase. They offer a chance to travel with pro aviation shooters, with in-country experience and local contacts, which otherwise may be too daunting or difficult to achieve. Not for the faint-hearted, you never know what you are going to get on the adventure, but if you do come away with results they will surely be of the highest and rarest quality.

Exotic Wings overview…

•  Small groups of dedicated photographers, spending quality time immersed in aviation photography.
•  Shadow the pros and develop your technique.
•  Workshop/Masterclass often built into the assignment.
•  Produce stunning end results.
•  Solid travel itinerary.

  • What doesn’t change are the principles of great access and the opportunity to test and enhance your photographic skills not to mention the social side of gathering with fellow enthusiasts.

    Ian, Exotic Wings traveller.

  • This week has been one of the best weeks of my life. It was nothing short of amazing. I'm so passionate about my photography and finally feel I have found a place to learn more with COAP. And to top it all one of the pilots wants one of my images!

    Mark, Exotic Wings traveller.

  • We never shot from the same place twice; between the different vantage points, the changing light and weather, and the reversal of flight ops as the wind switched, there was such a variety to the photographic opportunities.

    Steve, Exotic Wings traveller.

  • These have been immensely enjoyable, well run, good value bearing in mind the opportunities they deliver and all with a great social atmosphere, comradeship and not forgetting the essential ingredient of a good dose of banter!

    Tim, Exotic Wings traveller.

  • Long days and an epic week that none of us will ever forget with experiences that will live for us forever. Fantastic COAP trip.

    Carl, Exotic Wings traveller.

A short, sharp hit to Moscow to shoot Russian AF action! Aimed at that those whose time is precious, this EW presents an incredible chance to shoot a widespread variety of Russian-built hardware in as short a time as possible!
    Intense but amazing...

It all starts with the fast jet action at Kubinka with examples of this mighty air arm on display plus the arms exhibition, the historic collection at Patriot Park and the incredible live-firing demos at the adjacent Alabino range. We stay local to Kubinka and use our own, dedicated transport.
Each day’s programme is different, so we will be going on trade & public days to ensure good coverage, whilst still keeping it short and sweet. However, we could not go to Moscow and not visit the treasures at Monino museum - home to some of the rarest machines in the world - and soon to close. This year might be the last chance.
Your travel with COAP will ensure you are part of a small, flexible and photography-focussed group, offering the highest degree of flexibility to ensure a maximum return from as many vantage points as possible (and not forgetting a great social scene!).
We look forward to the adventure!

    DAY 1: TUESDAY 25th JUNE

Between 06:00 and 06:40 please meet with COAP and check-in with British Airways in Terminal 5 at London’s Heathrow Airport. We will be gathering by Column G, located in the Departures Hall immediately before the self-service check-in podiums (not the usual line of check-in and fast bag-drop desks). Latest check-in time advised by the airline is 2 hours prior to departure, i.e. 06:45 (please do not go through security without letting us know you have arrived).

Heathrow Airport, Terminal 5, Flight: BA233, Departs 08:45
    Moscow Domodedovo, Arrives 14:35

After Passport Control we collect our luggage from Baggage Reclaim, proceed through Customs and in the Arrivals Hall meet our local driver and those that are travelling Land Only and arriving from elsewhere.
We then transfer to and check in at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel – Vnukovo Airport, where we stay for 5-nights on a half board basis (includes breakfast & evening meal). Facilities include 3 restaurants, a bar and free wi-fi throughout the hotel and rooms.

    DAY 2: WEDNESDAY 26th JUNE
    ARMY:
We depart the accommodation each morning at 08:00. All the military aircraft taking part in the ‘Army 2019’ flying programme – including those doing live-firing on the Alabino tank ground 19 miles (30kms) away - will take off and land from Kubinka air base and we will spend multiple days here, shooting the static displays and flying displays. The flying programme changes often, but it is usually scheduled for between 10:30 and 12:45 and has a lot of great action at close quarters. The display line is close and varies(!) and the taxiway is also close (28mm at some points). Highlights include Russian AF fighters, display teams, Russian Army helos and possible foreign participation! The head-shaking static display has an example of every type in current Russian service.

Patriots Park is located on the Expo site of the Russian arms exhibition, and has all the latest tech on show, with a scattering of frontline helos on static display. There is also an incredible live-fire tank demonstration at the adjacent Alabino firing range (it’s almost a full-scale war!). It’s accessible via free shuttle bus. Another fantastic sight is the Patriots Park collection of aircraft in a museum setting. It’s an impressive aviation collection with 30 military aircraft on display in an uncluttered and open area. We will switch between sites on different days, based around the flying programme, to ensure a good spread of coverage and locations.
When the events close at 17:00, we will be picked up and return for a nice social evening at the complex. We arrive back at our hotel each evening around 18:00, with dinner included.

    DAY 3: THURSDAY 27th JUNE

MONINO: Today we will undertake an excursion out to Monino on the other side of Moscow, representing what could be one of the final times to visit the incredible collection of rare Russian gems on display. The Thursday has been a non-flying day for the past three ARMY expos. This legendary museum has been scheduled for closure for the last few years but has had a stay of execution - 2019, however, appears to be the last before the collection is dismantled. Some smaller aircraft will be moved to Patriots Park (on the ARMY site) but the larger, amazing flying machines, are under threat of the scrap man’s axe. This place is a bucket list item! Once the museum closes, we return to our accommodation and have the option of heading into Moscow for night and street photography.

    DAY 4: FRIDAY 28th JUNE

ARMY: Back to the ARMY Expo for more Kubinka, Alabino and Patriot Park action, this being the first public day so the programme at the sites will change from the previous trade days.

    DAY 5: SATURDAY 29th JUNE
ARMY: A third day at the ARMY exhibition, again a public day with a different flying programme as well as a lot of people! Once over, we head back into Moscow for our final night.

    DAY 6: SUNDAY 30th JUNE
Having checked-out we depart the hotel by 09:00 for a tour of the Kremlin grounds including the famous Armoury (admission is included in the tour price). Then to Domodedovo Airport where we check in with British Airways no later than 14:00 for our flight back to London.

Moscow Domodedovo Airport, Flight: BA 232, Departs 16:05
London Heathrow, Terminal 5, Arrives 18:00
