Exotic Wings & Exotic Wings Extreme

Bringing you the best opportunities in aviation photography…

Travel to the action, immerse yourself photography, shoot rarities, visit ‘bucket list’ destinations, experience the thrill of the chase, learn from specialists all over the world, enjoy a fantastic social scene… There really is nothing like it.

COAP has decades of professional experience in delivering aviation photography, whether it’s a professional and enthusiast engagement across military air arms and commercial operators, visiting airshows or conducting air-to-air photography sorties.

These operations are strictly for photographers and are dedicated to spending quality time in the best vantage points, often executed with local knowledge and experience in place, and sometimes working towards a specific end result for our hosts.

Such visits may include a Workshop tutorial or have a Masterclass built into them, whereby aircrew or specialist aviation photographers will present to the group in a relaxed, interactive format.

The EW Extreme operations include travel off the beaten track, and are more suited to the dedicated photographer that loves the thrill of the chase. They offer a chance to travel with pro aviation shooters, with in-country experience and local contacts, which otherwise may be too daunting or difficult to achieve. Not for the faint-hearted, you never know what you are going to get on the adventure, but if you do come away with results they will surely be of the highest and rarest quality.

Exotic Wings overview…

•  Small groups of dedicated photographers, spending quality time immersed in aviation photography.
•  Shadow the pros and develop your technique.
•  Workshop/Masterclass often built into the assignment.
•  Produce stunning end results.
•  Solid travel itinerary.

  • What doesn’t change are the principles of great access and the opportunity to test and enhance your photographic skills not to mention the social side of gathering with fellow enthusiasts.

    Ian, Exotic Wings traveller.

  • This week has been one of the best weeks of my life. It was nothing short of amazing. I'm so passionate about my photography and finally feel I have found a place to learn more with COAP. And to top it all one of the pilots wants one of my images!

    Mark, Exotic Wings traveller.

  • We never shot from the same place twice; between the different vantage points, the changing light and weather, and the reversal of flight ops as the wind switched, there was such a variety to the photographic opportunities.

    Steve, Exotic Wings traveller.

  • These have been immensely enjoyable, well run, good value bearing in mind the opportunities they deliver and all with a great social atmosphere, comradeship and not forgetting the essential ingredient of a good dose of banter!

    Tim, Exotic Wings traveller.

  • Long days and an epic week that none of us will ever forget with experiences that will live for us forever. Fantastic COAP trip.

    Carl, Exotic Wings traveller.

    12-16th JUNE 2019
Turku, Finland: The 2019 Turku Airshow

A fantastic EW working with the show organisers and the participants of the ‘Turku 2019’ airshow celebrations in Finland. This special event will see aircraft perform for the gathered crowds at Turku, with the world’s manufacturers vying for the prestigious contract to replace the air arm’s F-18 Hornet fleet. We will be operating a cameraship specifically to undertake air-to-air coverage of performers for the organisers as well as action at the show itself.
Finland has a fascinating aviation history, having operated some rare and important types. The concept behind the event is to showcase as much of these as possible, both past and present, whilst also looking at the future in the form of the Hornet Replacement Programme contenders.
We await to see the exact plan of the aerials and the subjects as the arrivals plan is put together.
The aerial flights will be subject to a separate costing. This itinerary covers the logistics, and outlines the aerial plan largest based on the last two years of highly successful engagements.
This is promising to be an excellent engagement.

COAP, Turku Airshow and TC are not responsible for cancellation at any stage or non-flying activity of the airshow or non join-ups or the length of time in the air. Safety and Insurance is your own responsibility and risk. Any aerial photography undertaking is a separate engagement to this itinerary and is at an extra cost, governed by the cameraship, the subject, operational costs, flight time and fuel costs. Aerial photography is physically demanding and it is your responsibility to ensure your own health. COAP, TC and the organisers of the airshow are not responsible for any non-flying or flight cancellation of the air-to-air activity. Your participation in this EW is on the acceptance of this.

Meet COAP at at London Heathrow ahead of the flights to Turku.
(Land Only photographers: You may meet COAP at London, Stockholm or at Turku airports, please liaise with us for your requirements)
On arrival in Turku, we collect our luggage from Baggage Reclaim and meet those arriving from other destinations in the Arrivals Hall, before collecting our transport.
We then expect to hook up with our cameraship crew for safety brief and configuration time.
Once complete, we check in at our hotel for the next five nights. Please note that the COAP crew may be heavily involved in briefings and planning in the evenings from time to time.

    DAYS 2 & 3: THURSDAY 13th & FRIDAY 14th JUNE
Flexibility is absolutely key here, given the chance of aerial photography during this assignment. We will be operating for the arriving participants on the Thursday as well as the possibility of selected flights on the Friday around the plans (and fuel status) of various show participants. The exact programme is not known yet (and will always change in some way anyway!). We will be operating from the airshow airfield on ATC standby for action.
More details of the participants will be provided as the weeks develop (and on the days themselves), but we once again hope for some great photographic opportunities air-to-air at a time when operating cameraships for aerial purposes is becoming increasingly difficult. Expect some great photographic opportunities on the ground at one of Europe’s premier shows this year, a strong historic showing, Finnish airpower, international participation and industry exhibits.
**PLEASE NOTE** We will send details out on the potential air-to-airs the moment they are known via e-mail to those attending. There are no details confirmed at this time on the subjects or the firm costings.

The first day of the Turku Airshow and we will be there to enjoy the show. There is also the chance of further air-to-airs happening on this day, with specific aircraft that are only coming for the flying display and returning to their own schedules.
