Assignment NO1B: RAF Marham

Assignment NO1B: RAF Marham

Lance Peters secures on the of the RAF Marham Enthusiast Day tickets allocated to COAP in raising money for the Station Fund.

The chance to see the ‘home team’ RAF for me was a dream come true. This was a ticketed event but I missed out due to work and being away, so when I learned that COAP had secured spaces at the Enthusiasts Day it was a life saver!

We met up after fish and chips in the car park and were given the all-important safety brief. We then boarded the coach and were taken onto the live taxiways at RAF Marham to see the Tornado GR4 missions.

There were a couple of aircraft out on the ramp for us to shoot on static, as well as some maintenance jets and I was very happy to have also got the chance to see the desert pink ‘Granby’ jet in the HAS site. I’d never been inside one before so it was a great experience to see how and where the Tornados operate.

The flying aircraft were using the ‘hot pit’ refuelling area and we could get up to the edge and take pictures of the work before they changed pilots and taxied out and took off. The noise!! I love Tornados and I love the RAF so it was a real treat.

The COAP guys were very helpful and friendly and always checked that I was getting the most out of it. My card in my camera had a problem so they even gave me one of theirs whilst giving me some photography advice. I can’t wait to go again.
